Piano and specialty pieces
Dylan Pruitt has led piano and specialty work here for years — uprights, baby grands, safes running 600 to 1,400 pounds, slate-bed pool tables, and the odd oversized armoire or gallery piece. The calls I take most are Lake Oswego and West Linn hillside carries; a piano down a steep, wet driveway is a different job than a ground-floor loft.
A specialty piece doesn’t map neatly onto a straight hourly clock. We price each one as a flat figure, weighing the piece itself, the floor it sits on, the slope, and how the driveway or street lets us in. Cargo coverage rides up to $1,000,000 per shipment, $0.60/lb released-value standard, nine-month claim window.
Sample specialty flat rates
| Item | Crew | Typical flat rate |
|---|---|---|
| Upright piano on level ground | 3 movers | $400 – $600 |
| Upright piano, hillside grade at one end | 3 movers | $600 – $880 |
| Baby grand, legs and lyre removed and crated | 3–4 movers | $900 – $1,400 |
| Gun safe 600–900 lbs, on level ground | 3 movers | $480 – $760 |
| Slate pool table, broken down and re-leveled | 3–4 movers | $650 – $1,100 |
If a job drags on, the fallback is $195/hr for the three-mover specialty crew, but the flat rate is what you actually sign.
What a hillside carry demands
Getting a baby grand out of a home on a slope means pulling the legs and lyre before we ever reach the first landing, then easing it down the grade on a tracked, deliberate carry. A 1,200-pound safe on a walkout rides plywood tracks, tarped in the rain. When it makes sense, the specialty piece runs its own day. Bundle it onto your residential or long-distance move.
